The AEO Readiness Checklist

9.1 One-Page Printable Checklist

Use this as a simple yes/no assessment. If you cannot confidently answer “yes” to an item, that gap is likely suppressing visibility.

Foundational (Eligibility Layer)

  • We make something people would recommend without being paid

  • Our primary value proposition is clear, specific, and defensible

  • We can articulate why we exist in one plain sentence

On-Site Clarity (Machine Safety Layer)

  • We have at least one clippable, attributable sentence per core page

  • Our About page clearly names the responsible individuals or entity

  • Our methodology or decision logic is publicly explained

  • Category and use-case language is explicit and consistent

  • Important claims are visible in static HTML at page load

Asset Accessibility (Reuse Layer)

  • Product images are high-quality and publicly accessible

  • Image URLs are stable and not script-locked

  • Plain-language reuse permission is stated

  • Logos, headshots, and visuals are easy to find and download

Off-Site Validation (Consensus Layer)

  • At least one credible third party references us independently

  • That reference uses clear category or use-case framing

  • The source is durable (not a one-off post, paid placement, or behind a paywall)

Operational Readiness (Opportunity Capture Layer)

  • A monitored contact method exists for media or expert inquiries

  • Someone is empowered to respond quickly

  • Editor-ready assets can be shared without internal approval loops

If more than a few boxes remain unchecked, the issue is not “advanced AEO.” It is missing fundamentals.

9.2 Quick Wins & High-Impact Actions

If you need leverage with minimal effort, start here.

High-Impact, Low Effort

  • Add one clippable attribution sentence to every key page

  • Make your About and Why pages explicit and tightly linked

  • Publish image reuse permission in plain language

  • Ensure contact information routes to a human who can respond

These changes often unlock stalled progress because they remove exclusion risk, not because they “optimize” anything.

High-Impact, Moderate Effort

  • Create a simple, editor-ready inclusion or media kit

  • Secure one durable, category-relevant third-party reference

  • Clean up DOM visibility for critical claims

  • Align category language across your site and off-site mentions

These actions move brands from eligible to recognizable.

When Resources Allow

  • Advanced or experimental schema beyond baseline correctness

  • High-volume content programs focused on coverage rather than clarity

  • Paid placements used as temporary credibility proxies while AI trust maps mature

  • Fine-grained tracking of volatile early AI answer behavior

These investments can be effective, but they do not replace the fundamentals.

Bottom Line

AEO readiness is not about sophistication. It is about removing friction between truth and reuse.

Brands that are clear, accountable, accessible, and independently validated become easy to cite. Brands that are vague, locked down, or unreachable quietly disappear from the answer layer.

This checklist is not a finish line. It is the minimum bar to participate in the next era of discovery.
